Celebrating 30 Years of Democracy Thought Leadership Dialogue

South Africa launched its 30 Years of Freedom and Democracy commemoration on 9 April 2024 under the theme: "30 Years of Democracy, Partnership and Growth.” In the Eastern Cape, ECSECC joined the provincial government in participating and contributing to the Province’s 30 Years of Democracy celebrations by hosting a Thought Leadership Dialogue with Dr JJ Klaas titled "Celebrating 30 Years of Democracy And Locating It In Its History Of 100 Years Of The Wars Of Resistance".

Other speakers on the panel included Professor Somadoda Fikeni and Professor Ncedile Saule. 

With this Thought Leadership Dialogue ECSECC in partnership with Nkosi Jongumsobomvu Maqoma Foundation, sought to appreciate the life and legacy of African Warriors including Nkosi Maqoma by connecting the past with the present. The dialogue was anchored on telling the story of resilience and courage of the African people. The dialogue was also aimed creating awareness on the significance and contribution of traditional leadership in the struggle and attainment of our freedom. 

The event was held on Friday, 10 May 2024 at the East London City Hall. Stakeholders at the dialogue included traditional leadership, provincial government officials, historians, and academics knowledgeable to the subject matter.
